Coming Up Next at Passpack: Groups

I’ve been stingy with the blog posts as of late, so I wanted to drop in with some news on what we’ve been up to, and what’s coming up next – Groups & Localization!

For the past 5 months or so I’ve been traveling, while Francesco has been preparing some important Passpack changes. Let’s ignore the traveling since you can read all about that on my personal blog, and jump right into the exciting new stuff.

“Groups”

Just one small word, but chock full of Passpack power. The next update you’ll see to your account is the ability to share not just with single people, but with entire groups. This is incredibly useful for provisioning passwords, for example, to an entire department.

Right before the official release, we’ll stock up the Help Center with how-to articles for you. But here’s the gist:

  • Add a shared user to a group and their account gets populated with all the password entries that have been previously shared with that group.
  • All changes are automatically propagated across the group.
  • Remove someone from a group and all group-shared password entries will disappear from his/her account.

Localization Tool

For those of you wishing you had Passpack in your own language – your moment is coming.

Following the Groups release, we’ll be finishing off a few smaller features to round out the both the free and business packages. The next big thing you can expect though will be a localization tool. We build the tool, and you (the community) can translate until your hearts delight.

Until then, welcome me back, and get ready for 2-3 months of intensive development.

Passpack Terms and Conditions Updates

Passpack’s Terms and Conditions have been updated. Mainly we cleaned up the wording and removed a couple of non applicable sentences. And, while this is explicitly stated on the site, as well as generally addressed in section 6 (Disclaimers; Indemnification; Limitations of Liability), we thought it was best to add the following to section 2c [...]

Passpack Maintenance Complete

The server transfer went very quickly and Passpack is online again. Actually, I think that the DNS was faster than we were. Some of you might have seen some odd things happening on screen while we were making a few last minute adjustments to accommodate the new HTTPS address. Everything should be OK now.

What’s Next for Passpack

Whew! It has been a busy few days here. You have surely already realized that Passpack is smack dab in the middle of a sever transfer. Nonetheless I wanted to take a minute to let you know what changes you can expect once this move is complete.

Downtime Scheduled for Tommorrow

On DEC.20, 2006 Passpack will be temporarily unavailable.
The downtime may last between 12 and 72 hours while we move to a new server.
Thanks for your patience.

Love thy neighbor: share.

Everyone has got a creed in life, mine is “Share whatever you can spare.”
That may sound a little odd for someone launching a project like Passpack where data secrecy is of the utmost importance. But look again: Share what you can spare. Personal data, sensitive information, passwords… these are all things no one can spare [...]

aSSL: SSL for Ajax?

UPDATE Dec. 20, 2006
I know, I know. Deleting posts is bad etichette. But sometimes it is necessary in order to avoid propagating the wrong information. This post was causing confusion as to the relationship between aSSL and Passpack. My fault and my apologies.

Password Security & Packing Keys

The first question new Passpack users ask during sign up, without fail, is:
I just chose a User ID and Pass,
why do I need a Packing Key too?

5 months of work – 20 minutes of relax

It was hard waiting all day to hear how Nicola was fairing in Paris. I had tried to connect on LE WEB 3 TV, but the Start Up Room was webcamless (though I did catch an interesting debate on free speech in China). I sat down with a coffee and settled into waiting.

We’re Live!

It’s official: at 5:27am (GMT+2) Passpack.com went live. Francesco fixed a nasty IE bug, added in the copy and put it all on line.
