No worries Tom - tags are here to stay. We just needed to decide on how to best optimize them in our architecture. :)

Tags are absolutely essential for me. With nearly 400 entries, they are the best way to sort information.

No matter how many entries you have, there has to be some structure, and tags are FAR better than a traditional file tree.

Whatever you can do to improve or speed up Passpack is always appreciated, as long as Tag feature remains =)

@lmjabreu
RE: tag optimizing - More difficult, no. It would stay the same. We're also looking into 2-3 other ways to optimize for time either during packing or unpacking. Some people will find all three useful, others maybe only one. We're trying to keep it flexible without making it complicated.

RE: Mobile testing, login process, Passpack FF Extension - We're working on the Beta 6, which will change some of the underlying structure so that we can get back to implementing the features on our to-do list (which is <i>very</i> long).

After the Beta 6 release, we'll start checking things off that list.

100 users isn't enough IMO.

"We need to let users know what tags are, how they’re useful and make them easier to find in Passpack."

Second that.

"Most users don’t change their tags that often, so we can optimize the “packing” process to reflect that -hopefully saving you folks some precious seconds."

As long as it doesn't make it more difficult for the ones who do use tags a lot to use the service.

BTW: what happened to the mobile testing? And are you still working on the login process? Passpack FF Extension? Support importing from CodeWallet(http://tinyurl.com/nvfqz)? Hope so.

@LethAL & @ray
I'll try and draw some conclusions between number of entries and tag usage and update the post.

I also wonder if higher use of tags correlates with those that have a lot of entries ...as implied by the comment from LethAL. I use tags a reasonable amount but have quite a few entries, so I use them to subclassify. Does the survey take into account the number of entries people have? Maybe that topic is a survey in itself? I was a newbie to tags but having used www.del.icio.us for bookmarks I realise their value.

I think one of the main reasons tags aren't used a lot is simply that there isn't enough information to require it, when compared to say, emails or bookmarks. this could just be me though, as I only have two pages of entries.
